Captains Andy LoCascio and Rich Tenreiro hook up with Capt Dave Chieffo of Block Island Fishing Charters (401-787-2321) for an incredible day of fishing that included monster stripers on eels and on the troll, as well as an incredible fluke bite in the water around Block Island.  This show is a must see for anyone who can travel to Block for just for the day (or a long weekend) or can get their own boat to the island (just s short ride from Montauk, NY or Point Judith, RI).  The eel and trolling techniques illustrated in this show can be used anywhere in the northeast!  If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
The rod and reel combo used for fluke fishing features a Shimano Stradic 4000FI reel on a 7' Teramar rod rated for 10-20lb (model TMS70MH).  This is a very versatile spinning outfit and is perfect for working light bucktails on the bottom.

The conventional rod and reel combo used for eel fishing features a Shimano Torium 20 reel on a Tallus conventional rod  (model TLC-70MHA).  This is a very versatile conventional outfit and is perfect for nearly all northeast eel fishing applications.

The spinning reel is loaded with 14lb Berkley Fireline Crystal which is attached to a 3ft length of 30lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a #10 Mustad Rolling Swivel. The small profile of the swivel virtually eliminates any chance of picking up debris.  The bucktail was tipped with a strip of Berkley Gulp Saltwater 7 1/2 inch Cut Bait (squid color) trimmed into a pendant along and dipped in Mustad Activate Saltwater Bait Enhancer (STBE-SALT).  This product is perfect for any soft bait.  It is easily absorbed and uses pheromones to trigger the feeding response.

The conventional reel used for eel fishing is loaded with 30lb Berkley Big Game which is attached to a 5ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a #10 Mustad Rolling Swivel. The rig is completed with a 6/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Beak Bait style hook.  This is an incredibly sharp hook and is the most effective hook when using large live baits, whole dead baits, or chunk baits.

The conventional reel used for downrigger trolling was loaded with 30lb Berkley Big Game which is attached to a 5ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a Mustad Rolling Swivel. The rig is completed with a custom Santini Tube lure tipped with a Berkley Gulp 8 inch Saltwater Sandworm (bloody color) smeared with Mustad Activate Slow Release Gel (STG-SALT).  This product is prefect for trolled and retrieved soft and hard baits.  It is very sticky and adheres to the bait for a very long time.

Capt Andy and Capt Rich wear bibs, jackets, shirts, and shorts from Old Harbor Outfitters.  On their offshore trips they also use the unique fighting belts and tech shorts developed by the fishermen at OHO.  They also offer a huge selection of fishing bags.  The folks at Old Harbor Outfitters have a complete line of gear that addresses the needs of every inshore and offshore angler.
Aside from being an incredibly successful eel fisherman, Captain Dave is one of the regions top authorities on downrigger fishing.  The downrigger system used on this show was setup and supplied by Captain Dave.  All his boats are equipped exclusively with Cannon Mag20DTS downriggers.
The raging currents and big fish made the net choice especially critical.  A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side.  This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!
The boat used was a 2895CC Triton powered by twin 250hp Mercury Verados.  This boat is the real deal. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry, the 2895 will knife through big seas that would leave most boats back at the dock.  The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.  Click here to learn more about this incredible boat or click here to learn about the gear and Raymarine electronics on this boat.
Andy & Rich and the entire crew stayed at the Island Home (401-466-5944).  This is a beautiful restored Victorian Bed & Breakfast. The inn is conveniently located between the village of Old Harbor and the Great Salt Pond, with panoramic views of the harbor, ocean and surrounding countryside. The warm & comfortable setting, with inviting rooms, cozy nooks and sprawling lawns make the inn ideal for winding down after a day of fishing.  It is also perfect for a family getaway, and only a short walk to town, beaches and marinas.
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
