Capt Andy joins up with New England shark authority Capt Bill Brown of Billfish Charters (860 741-3301) and hook expert Jeff Pierce from Mustad.  The crew spends the day illustrating all the fine points of shark fishing in the Northeast.  Bill covers baits and rigging, while Jeff covers hooks and attractants.  Of course, the sharks eventually show up and make for plenty of action including a solid Mako and a blue shark estimated at over 300lbs!  The techniques and tackle in this show can be used by anyone who dares to chase these fearsome creatures.  If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
Two different rod and reel combinations were used for the sharks.  The first outfit featured a Shimano TLD II 50 on a Shimano Tallus Rod (model#  TLC-58HSBA) loaded with 80lb Berkley Big Game monofilament line.  The second outfit featured a Shimano Tyrnos 30 loaded on a Shimano Tallus Rod (model#  TLC66HSBA) with 50lb Berkley Big Game monofilament line.  A short bimini twist was tied into the main line.  The double line created by the bimini was used to tie a clinch knot to a #6-300lb Mustad Ball Bearing Swivel with a snap.

Proper chum was the key to a great day.  The chum mixture started with a 4 gallon pail of ground bunker chum mixed with 8 gallons a sea water and most importantly a pint of Mustad Activate Bait Attractant.  This mixture was constantly ladled overboard to produce a very consistent and effective slick.

The rig consisted of an 8ft length of 400lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon with double crimped offshore loops on either end.  A #6-300lb Mustad Ball Bearing Swivel was used to connect the leader to an 8ft length of #14 Malin single strand wire using a haywire twist.  The rig was completed with 10/0 Mustad O'Shaugnessy hook.

Capt Andy and Capt Rich wear bibs, jackets, shirts, and shorts from Old Harbor Outfitters.  On their offshore trips they also use the unique fighting belts and tech shorts developed by the fishermen at OHO.  They also offer a huge selection of fishing bags.  The folks at Old Harbor Outfitters have a complete line of gear that addresses the needs of every inshore and offshore angler.

The boat used was a 2895CC Triton powered by twin 250hp Mercury Verados.  This boat is the real deal. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry, the 2895 will knife through big seas that would leave most boats back at the dock.  The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.  Click here to learn more about this incredible boat or click here to learn about the gear and Raymarine electronics on this boat.
Andy & Rich and the entire crew stayed at the Island Home (401-466-5944).  This is a beautiful restored Victorian Bed & Breakfast. The inn is conveniently located between the village of Old Harbor and the Great Salt Pond, with panoramic views of the harbor, ocean and surrounding countryside. The warm & comfortable setting, with inviting rooms, cozy nooks and sprawling lawns make the inn ideal for winding down after a day of fishing.  It is also perfect for a family getaway, and only a short walk to town, beaches and marinas.
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
