Captains Rich Tenreiro, John Marino, and Henry Feeney spend the day illustrating ALL the techniques and gear needed to catch blackfish.  The cover everything including anchoring, terminal tackle, bait selection, locations, tides, structure, strategy, and much more!  Along the way they also land an impressive catch of monster blackfish all over 6lbs with the largest being nearly 11lbs!  From beginner to pro, everyone will learn much from these shows.  If you have questions about any of the equipment used during the show, please contact us or  send us a message
Three separate outfits were featured.  The first outfit had a Shimano Tekota 700 on a Shimano 6'6" Compre conventional (casting) rod rated for 15-30lb (model CPC66MHB).  This outfit was loaded with 50lb Berkley Big Game Braid.  This is a very versatile conventional outfit and is perfect for choice for blackfish when using sinker weights up to 12 ounces.

The second outfit had a Shimano Torium 14 reel on a Tallus conventional rod (model TLC-70MHA) loaded with 65lb Berkley Big Game Braid.  This is the perfect outfit when fishing deeper wrecks and structure.  The high speed retrieve (6.2-1) makes a big difference when you need to re-bait your rig.  This rig can handle sinker weights from 4 ounces and up.

The third outfit had a Shimano TLD 20/40s reel on a Tallus conventional rod (model TLC-70MHA) loaded with 40lb Berkley Big Game Braid.  This is a great, inexpensive, all around work horse outfit that can get the job done in any depth.

All of the braided main lines were to a 4ft length of  50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a #10 Mustad Rolling Swivel

The rig we recommend consists of a dropper loop 6" above a loop that is passed through the eye of the bank sinker.  A 12" length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader tipped with a  4/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Beak Bait style hook.  This is an incredibly sharp hook and is very effective at penetrating the tough mouths of blackfish.

The Automatic Adjusting Marker Buoy used during the show was provided by Skimmer Outdoors.  This is a reliable, easy to use marker that remains in place after setting. Traditional markers used a fixed sinker line which might either be too short to reach the bottom or might become entangled in the propeller. The Automatic Adjusting Marker Buoy automatically releases the necessary line for the depth and also avoids line entanglement. The buoy is made of durable nylon, Styrofoam and stainless steel for long life.  (Click on the buoy to enlarge)  Available now at Skimmer Outdoors!
Capt Andy and Capt Rich wear bibs, jackets, shirts, and shorts from Old Harbor Outfitters.  On their offshore trips they also use the unique fighting belts and tech shorts developed by the fishermen at OHO.  They also offer a huge selection of fishing bags.  The folks at Old Harbor Outfitters have a complete line of gear that addresses the needs of every inshore and offshore angler.
The raging currents and big fish made the net choice especially critical.  A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side.  This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!
The boat used was a 2895CC Triton powered by twin 250hp Mercury Verados.  This boat is the real deal. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry, the 2895 will knife through big seas that would leave most boats back at the dock.  The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.  Click here to learn more about this incredible boat or click here to learn about the gear and Raymarine electronics on this boat.
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
All the clothes worn by Capt Andy and Rich were embroidered by Darla Hall at Stitches by SWYCE.  This is an embroiderer that caters exclusively to peoples passions!  Be it a fishing vessel, club, event or favorite activity, Stitches by SWYCE can create the perfect image for shirts, caps, jackets and more.
