Equalizer Products – Retractable Safetyline
Nothing can ruin a fishing trip more quickly than a rod being lost overboard. Rods are very vulnerable during trolling especially if you are using outriggers or outrodders.
We have typically used parachute cord for safety lines (thin diameter and very strong). These cords has to long enough so that we could pick up a rod with a fish on it and move to the other side of the boat. The cords were always in the way and getting tangled with just about everything (especially when using four or more rods).
The Retractable Safetyline from Equalizer has finally solved this issue. It is made of polyethylene with a nylon core and has a stainless steel clip at each end. The clips can easily attach to a cleat and the reel clamp . The manufactuers took into account that in many cases you may not be able to clip directly to an object, so they left 9 inches between the clip and where the coil begins. That way you can attached the Safetyline to anything by just looping around a t-top pipe, toe rail, or anything else and simply clip it back onto itself.
Its 34 inches in it’s relaxed state and can expand to 18 feet. It allows the angler to pick up the outfit from a rod holder and walk anywhere in the cockpit without unclipping anything.
The safetyline is also the perfect solution for attaching gaff handles to the boat.
