Underwater Light Install – Coastal Night Lights

The team at Coastal Night Lights sent us some amazing underwater LED lights to retrofit our boats. These lights are fairly easy to install if you have some experience and the right tools. Many boat owners will elect to have a professional install them.

The first step is too place the light on the hull where you plan to install it and drill one of the screw holes. The reason we only drill one of the holes is so that we can level the light so that when we drill the second whole, the light is completely level. Once we have set the light into place we scribe around the light and that is going to tell us where we need to remove the bottom paint so that our adhesive will stick properly.

We drilled the hole for the wire off center. The reason for that is if you ever need to remove the light for any reason, the wire is more accessible. We removed the bottom paint in only the area where the light will actually be adhering to the hull and also rubbed the end of the wire with acetone so the caulking with adhere. We put adhesive around the edges of the light and filled in the spaces in the back of the case as well as the last 3-4 inches of the wire.

When screwing the light into place we advise you to use a screw-driver as opposed to a screw gun since the case is plastic and you run the risk of cracking it if you apply too much pressure.

These lights project 380 Lumens and are available in 3 colors. Aside from looking really cool, underwater lights can really come in handy in several situations. They act as a great bait attractor, and if you were to get something caught in your propeller at night they will certainly give you a better view.
