Capt Andy and Capt Rich meet up with Capt Lou Grazioso of Striper Mania Sportfishing Charters (732-687-7673) to get in on the red hot Verrazano Bridge weakfish bite on very light spinning tackle.  They start off using live peanut bunker, but as the bite slows they switch to Gulp Shrimp and absolutely crush the fish!  The techniques shown in this show are prefect when targeting weakfish in depths greater than 20ft. The rod and reel combo seen on the show featured a Shimano Stradic 4000FI reel on a 7' Teramar rod rated for 10-20lb (model TMS70MH).  This is a very versatile spinning outfit and is perfect for working light bucktails on the bottom.

The spinning reel was loaded with 14lb Berkley Fireline which is attached to a 3ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a #10 Mustad Rolling Swivel. The leader was attached to a 3-way swivel.  A 3-5oz bank sinker was tied 2ft beneath the 3-way swivel.  The rig was completed with a 3/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Beak Baitholder style hook on 3ft length of 30lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader.  A 2-4oz bucktail can be substituted for the bank sinker when using artificial baits (Gulp).

Two different baits were used.  A live peanut bunker that was sprayed with Mustad Activate Spray.  This product is perfect for small live baits.  It is very easy to apply and re-apply it as needed (every couple of drifts).  The other bait was a Berkley Gulp Alive 4 inch Shrimp that was also sprayed with Mustad Activate Spray.  When a bucktail was used instead of a sinker, it was also tipped with a shrimp.

Capt Andy and Capt Rich wear bibs, jackets, shirts, and shorts from Old Harbor Outfitters.  On their offshore trips they also use the unique fighting belts and tech shorts developed by the fishermen at OHO.  They also offer a huge selection of fishing bags.  The folks at Old Harbor Outfitters have a complete line of gear that addresses the needs of every inshore and offshore angler.
The raging currents and big fish made the net choice especially critical.  A Frabill Powercatch net with it's extendable handle was used and ensured that none of the fish were lost at boat-side.  This is a a great net that stores easily and all you have to do is slide, lock and load and it is ready to go!
The boat used was a 2895CC Triton powered by twin 250hp Mercury Verados.  This boat is the real deal. With a deep-v hull and sharp entry, the 2895 will knife through big seas that would leave most boats back at the dock.  The deck layout makes it the perfect platform for both inshore and offshore, plugging, trolling, or fishing your favorite hot spot at anchor.  Click here to learn more about this incredible boat or click here to learn about the gear and Raymarine electronics on this boat.
LoadRite supplied the tandem axel roller trailed used to haul the boat.  This trailer made launching and recovery a breeze and provided a real sense of security on the road.  Click here to locate the LoadRite dealer nearest to you.
All the clothes worn by Capt Andy and Rich were embroidered by Darla Hall at Stitches by SWYCE.  This is an embroiderer that caters exclusively to peoples passions!  Be it a fishing vessel, club, event or favorite activity, Stitches by SWYCE can create the perfect image for shirts, caps, jackets and more.
