The rod and reel combo used for throwing plugs to breaking fish on top was a Shimano Stradic 4000FI reel on a 7' Teramar rod rated for 10-20lb (model TMS70MH).  This is a very versatile spinning outfit and was perfect for throwing big plugs very long distances.

The spinning reel is loaded with 20lb Berkley Fireline Crystal which is attached to a 3ft length of 30lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a #10 Mustad Rolling Swivel. The small profile of the swivel virtually eliminates any chance of picking up debris. 

The lures used for targeting breaking fish were the Guides Choice Slider and Guides Choice Popper.  Both of these lures provided incredible casting distance and irresistible action!

The lures used for targeting feeding on herring. mackerel, and other finfish were the Guides Choice Slider.

The bucktail was the new 1oz and 2oz HookUp Syntail Series Bucktails in chartreuse, white, and pink.  These bucktails are perfect for every application and their unique design ensures the best possible hook set and the least chance of snagging bottom.  These bucktails were specifically designed by fishing in the northeast!

The bucktail was tipped with a Berkley Gulp Alive Swimming Mullet (chartreuse, pink, or white) dipped in Mustad Activate Saltwater Bait Enhancer (STBE-SALT).  This product is perfect for any soft bait.  It is easily absorbed and uses pheromones to trigger the feeding response.

The conventional reel was loaded with 30lb Berkley Big Game which is attached to a 5ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a #10 Mustad Rolling Swivel. The rig is completed with a 8/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Beak Bait style hook.  This is an incredibly sharp hook and is the most effective hook when using large live baits, whole dead baits, or chunk baits.

The cut bunker baits were soaked in Mustad Activate Bait Enhancer which made a big difference when the tide slowed and the fish became very finicky.

The conventional reel used for downrigger trolling was loaded with 30lb Berkley Big Game which is attached to a 5ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a Mustad Rolling Swivel.

The rig is completed with a custom Santini Tube lure tipped with a Berkley Gulp 8 inch Saltwater Sandworm (bloody color) smeared with Mustad Activate Slow Release Gel (STG-SALT).  This product is prefect for trolled and retrieved soft and hard baits.  It is very sticky and adheres to the bait for a very long time.

The conventional rod and reel combo we recommend features a Shimano Torium 20 reel on a Tallus conventional rod  (model TLC-70MHA).  This is a very versatile conventional outfit and is perfect for nearly all diamond jigging applications.

The conventional reel was loaded with 30lb Berkley Big Game which is attached to 4ft length of 80lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a #10 Mustad Rolling Swivel.  A 2inch dropper loop was tied in the middle of the leader.   The dropper loop was passed through the eye of a 7/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Beak Bait style hook. A Berkley Gulp Alive 4inch Swimming Mullet was threaded onto the hook until the hook eye was covered. The swimming mullet was sprayed with Mustad Activate Spray.  This product is prefect for soft baits.  It is very easy to apply and re-apply it as needed (every couple of drifts).  The rig was topped off with either a 4oz or 6oz hammered chrome diamond jig.

The rig consisted of either a hollow shell squid with a small egg sinker inserted inside and a 3/0 treble trailer hook or a Berkley Gulp Squid which is available in many colors, has excellent scent and is very tough to pull of the hook.  The Gulp squid  also requires no refrigeration to stay fresh.  It was rigged 4ft behind an egg sinker that was placed above the swivel.  The Gulp squid was rigged with a single 7/0 Mustad Ultrapoint Baitholder hook in the mantle.

The spinning reel is loaded with 30lb Berkley Fireline Crystal which is attached to a 3ft length of 50lb Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink Fluorocarbon leader using a #10 Mustad Rolling Swivel. The small profile of the swivel virtually eliminates any chance of picking up debris.  A large snap was tied to end of the leader using a clinch knot.  The snap was attached to an un- weighted 10/0 Mustad treble hook.
