Stellwagen Bank, MA - Cod Fishing

The August 19 cod fishing visit to the historic Stellwagen Bank of the coast of Massachusetts was quite successful. Andy and Rich’s guest, Capt. John Walker, showed what it takes to target monster cod in the deep water. Calm seas, perfect conditions and a steady bite made for an unforgettable day.

Most of the cod fishing was done on the east side of the bank in depths from 200 to 300 feet. All of the fish were of legal size and several of the fish were in the 30-40lb class. There was also a nice mix of Ling, some huge Cusk, and legal size Pollack.

“This was our first ever cod show. Both Rich and I had fished cod before but only during the brutal northeast winter months. We had heard “rumors” that they could be caught in reasonable conditions. Fishing Stellwagen (only a few miles out of Boston Harbor) in August was a pleasure!” Capt Andy LoCascio
