Bait Presentation – Cut Bunker

Andy describes the most effective way to hook cut bunker.

We prefer to cut bunker on a slight angle as it can actually help to reduce spin. When hooking the head, place the hook the the top of the head in the meatiest part which is where the hook is going to come out easiest. Also, by hooking the bunker on one of the three points it is less likely to spin, which would not have been achieved had we not cut the bait on a slant.

When beginning to cut the body of the bunker, make sure you keep the same slant going. An average sized cut for a body piece is around 1 inch, but can be cut much thinner when the fish become finicky. We prefer to place the heart on hook as it acts as a great attractant for the bait as well.

Cutting bunker on a slight angle helps reduce spin when the bait is hooked. This angled cut allows the hook to exit easily at one of the three points, enhancing stability and making the bait more effective in the water.

When hooking a bunker head, place the hook at the top in the meatiest part. This positioning ensures the hook comes out easily and keeps the bait balanced, reducing unwanted spinning.

An average size for cutting a bunker body piece is around 1 inch, but this can be cut thinner especially when fish are finicky. Keeping the slant consistent while cutting helps maintain bait effectiveness.

Hooking the bunker on one of the three points minimizes bait spin, which can reduce its attractiveness to fish. This method ensures the bait remains stable in the water, making it more appealing to catch fish.

Placing the hook through the heart is recommended because the heart acts as a strong attractant to fish. This increases the chances of a successful catch by enhancing the bait's appeal.
