Montauk, NY - Blackfish Fishing

Blackfish FIshingCaptains Andy and Rich made their final blackfish fishing (tautog fishing) trip of the season to historic Montauk, NY to hook up with Captain Joel Lizza of the Sea Otter Fleet.

This was the last week of November and the blackfish fishing was red hot. They took advantage of the great conditions and made the 15 mile run to the south side of Block Island. The bite was fantastic and included plenty of 5-8lb tautog and even a couple of 10lb blackfish in depths of 50-60ft.  Block Island is one of the best kept secrets when it comes to the blackfish bite.  None of the locals actively target these fish and the mainland Rhode Island anglers don’t need to make the run.

“We called this the Montauk Blackfish show because we actually sailed from Montauk (even though we fished at Block Island). We could have hit some of the Montauk or Gardiner’s Island rock piles, but we knew the bite was going to be lock-and-load off of Block” Capt Andy
