“The summer fluke fishing bite on the east end can be very good. There are many good spots in the open water east and south of Montauk Point. Our original intention was to film there, but it it was simply too rough. We ended up filming the bulk of the show out of the wind in Fort Pond Bay. Fortunately, the bite was just as good there as anywhere else!” Capt Andy LoCascio

Fluke fishing at Montauk Point is excellent during the summer months, with August 4 being highlighted as a successful date in the document. The summer flounder bite tends to be strong during this period, especially in deep waters over 40 feet.
The page suggests using specific deep water fluke gear, which can be found through their Deep Water Fluke gear recommendations link. This equipment is tested to handle strong currents and big seas while targeting trophy fluke.
Good fishing spots include open waters east and south of Montauk Point as well as sheltered areas like Fort Pond Bay where conditions may be calmer but the bite remains strong.
Most fluke caught are of legal size, with many in the 3-5 pound range and some trophy-sized fish exceeding 8 pounds, illustrating productive fishing conditions.
Big seas and strong currents do not deter fishing success around Montauk Point. Anglers like Andy, Rich, and Capt. Joel have demonstrated that the fluke bite remains strong and action frequent despite challenging conditions.
