We Have Arrived – Galapagos 2011

After a thankfully uneventful flight (with one connection), I arrived in San Cristobal, Ecuador along with Paul Michele, Brian Stensland and their respective crews. We were met at the airport by Pete Santini and his associate Marco (tour provider). After a very brief $2 taxi ride we arrived at the Miconia Hotel owned and operated by Kathy Espinel.

Where to Stay

There are no Hilton or Marriot hotels on San Cristobal and hopefully there will never be. The accommodations are simple, inexpensive, and complete. My first choice and the closest thing to an actual hotel is the Hotel Miconia. I can say with great certainty that is currently the only waterfront lodging that includes a great bar and restaurant (with views), pool, gym, and waterfront lounge. The rooms are complete with AC, hot water, TV, and refrigerator, and more. The location is perfect and the staff is professional and courteous. Kathy is an incredible host and as usual went out of her way to make sure everything was right.

The Plan

This group has a total of nine anglers and the plan is to fish two boats each day and for the remaining three anglers to enjoy some of the other activities that make the Galapagos Islands so special. As usual the seas are flat calm and the conditions are perfect. We seem to be in a very weak high pressure system. I expect the fish to be biting tomorrow. My crew for the day consists of Jesse, Wayne, and Tim.  I hope they are ready…

The three “tourists” are also in for a special day.
